Preparatory workshops, before training begins
The field training office runs three workshops for students before the training period starts, preparing them for the host organisation and for what the course requires. Each cycle's dates are announced at the start of term.
Introducing field training
What field training is, why it is a required course, and what it commits you to.
- Eligibility: level 8 or above, and 90 completed credit hours.
- How to apply to the openings published on the platform.
- The official letters — referral and commencement — and when each is issued.
- What the academic supervisor and the field supervisor each do.
Getting ready for the workplace
What a student needs before their first day at the host organisation.
- Writing a CV that shows your technical skills.
- Interview technique and professional communication.
- Workplace conduct and following the organisation's policies.
- Keeping the organisation's information confidential.
Obligations and assessment
What is asked of you during the placement, and how your grade is arrived at.
- Recording attendance and meeting the required training hours.
- Weekly reports, approved by the field supervisor.
- The final report and presentation to the academic supervisor.
- The evaluation forms, and who completes each one.
